Our prediction: By 20th December, at least 3 supermarkets will be at 5p. By 23rd December, someone will go to 4p.
🥕 Don’t Forget: FREE Carrots For Rudolph At Tesco & Morrisons!
As well as cheap veg, don’t miss the FREE carrots for Rudolph giveaway!
Every year Tesco and Morrisons give away a free wonky carrot to kids to leave out for Rudolph and Santa’s reindeer on Christmas Eve. It’s become a proper Christmas tradition.
What to expect for 2026 – based on previous years:
Tesco – Carrots For Rudolph: Usually from 20th December to 24th December – pick up a free carrot from the stand at the front of store, while stocks last. In 2024 Tesco gave away carrots at 2,880 stores, including Express stores, and estimated it would hand out around 175 tonnes.
Morrisons – Free Wonky Carrots: Usually from 20th December to 24th December – pick up a free British carrot from the ‘Naturally Wonky’ range at the front of store. In 2025 Morrisons gave away over 27 tonnes of carrots – that’s 185,000+ wonky carrots!
No purchase needed, no loyalty card needed – just ask in store. It’s 1 per child, while stocks last, and they go fast on Christmas Eve so go early if you can.
We will update this section when Tesco and Morrisons confirm their 2026 dates.
➡️ How To Get The Cheapest Christmas Veg
- Don’t buy early. Veg is cheapest 19th-24th Dec. Buy your potatoes, carrots, parsnips and sprouts then.
- Go early in the day. Last year Aldi and Lidl rationed to 3-4 packs per customer due to demand. Go at opening.
- Check the limits. Expect a limit of 3-4 of each veg per customer.
- Don’t just go to one shop. Lidl starts at 9p, Aldi will match, then Morrisons / Asda will undercut. Check this page daily – we update it.
- Freeze what you don’t use. Carrots, parsnips and sprouts all freeze brilliantly. At 5p a bag, stock up for January.
🗓️ What Happened Last Year? Christmas Veg 2025
Last year prices started at 15p, then dropped to 10p, 9p, 8p, 5p and finally 5p by 19th December with some veg dropping to 4p. Then around Christmas you get free carrots at Morrisons
That is why we think Lidl starting at 9p this year is just the opening shot – not the final price. We also expect swedes (British Swede) and shallots (Deluxe Echalion Shallots 300g) to be added to the list again this year.
